27 January 99 - PRAISE & PRAY from the HILLS of JAPAN
THIS WEEK: "Digging Out" "Second Verse same as the first..." and it
is getting better not worse...
The last time I wrote I said, "Things have just kept on keeping on at a
very fast pace." Today I say, "we're still flying low..."
**BRETT TURNER**
Brett Turner has arrived! And he is doing well! He will be with us until
April 13th. He is "fitting in" in every way, and that can be a challenge
for someone who stands 193cm tall in a 175cm society. We are
thankful for his gentle spirit and servants heart. Pray for his early days
in this culture foreign to him.
**ERIKA**
Erika I mentioned last time. She is a cousin to Takashi Ikeda (I help on
Tuesdays with his rehab program...). Erika is a senior in H.S. and this
past October her father passed away. Her mother has long standing
severe emotional problems.
Erika was visiting the Ikedas on the Tuesday we had the pizza party.
She has an interest in English so I invited her and she came. It
happened that Nobue Konno was home from Ogden, UT at the time and
was visiting the Nozakis, Ryunosuke's parents. Afterwards Nobue
came to the pizza party and before Erika left, Nobue and Erika got to
visit. After that one thing lead to another, phone calls between Konnos
& Ikedas and discussions over sushi & tea between Cheryl & I and the
Ikedas.
Essentially, there is no parenting for Erika at this crucial time in her
life. Erika's father was the older brother of Mrs. Ikeda and he asked his
sister to look after Erika as Erika's mother is not able too. Despite all
of these "challenges" Erika is a positive outgoing young lady. Though,
I'm sure she deals with much uncertainty these days.
Well as I said, one thing lead to another and the Ikedas now have an
application for international students, from Weber St. Univ. in Ogden,
sent by Nobue in their hands and Erika is wanting to pursue an
University Education there.
Mr. & Mrs. Ikeda are convinced that there was a "special" leading in all
of this, given the timing of her visit with the pizza party and Nobue's
visit, etc., etc. Pray:
#1 for Erika, for every obvious need, spiritual, emotional, etc.;
#2 that things for Erika to study in Ogden and do a Christian Home
Stay with a family from the Washington Heights Baptist. Church there will
work out;
#3 for the Ikeda's that they will understand "special" to mean the all
loving and sovereign creator God, our Savior Jesus Christ.
Other Items:
We are in the midst of "remodeling" the room we rent for English, etc.
Pray that I may communicate effectively with the company doing it and
that both us and they will be happy and satisfied when the work is done.
My, Leon's, eye is back to normal. I've finished the medicine and am
left with the instructions from the Dr. to see him if the trouble returns.
In the mean time his pertinent instructions for me are (and you all will
appreciate this) "avoid stressful situations."
Dad Hill recently had hip replacement surgery. Recovery is on
schedule. I think we can praise the Lord for healing Dad's hip. It will
be a few more weeks before healing will be complete. Please pray for
complete recovery.
Please, continue to remember in prayer:
* ICHIKAWA FAMILY *
* NOBUE KONNO ministering in Ogden *
* NOZAKI FAMILY *
* RYUNOSUKE NOZAKI in Ogden *
* KENICHIRO WATANABE'S Salvation *
Kenichiro's "senior year schedule" has caused him to stop our
meetings together. Pray for other opportunities.
* CHERYL (the Mama) HILL *
Unless otherwise indicated, Cheryl is always the one running Jeffrey's
program and there is ALWAYS A SPECIAL PRAYER NEED for her.
Enough for now... next week we intend to be back to the daily
approach. Also, I'll try to include some things regarding Jeffrey's new
program. Suffice it to say, that for the time being, all crawling &
creeping have been eliminated from his program. I real milestone! (But
not all was happy news. Jeffrey's beloved bananas were eliminated
from his diet!!!) He and Abigail are doing GREAT!
Thank you for your ever faithful prayers. We praise God for you!
Your Compatriots in Christ's Kingdom,
The Hills: Abigail, Jeffrey, Cheryl & Leon
