28 December 98 - PRAISE & PRAY from the HILLS of JAPAN
THIS WEEK: The Joy of New Life Born
Last week we wrote:
"Last night was the All Church Christmas Celebration at Midorino
Chapel. Our great joy was to have Miss Reiko Tomonari come together
with us."
Abigail, our little missionary, asked Reiko if she wanted to come to the
Candle Service on Christmas Eve. She did come and after speaking
with Cheryl and Pastor Okita separately regarding the meaning of all of
this, she prayed to accepted Jesus as her Saviour with Pastor Okita!
She has made a commitment to meet with Pastor to study the Bible.
But the subtle spiritual battle is on for her spiritual life already. She
is
normally free on Sundays and was planning to attend worship with us
and then study the Bible. But a winter art class she is just starting
had its opening day this past Sunday. (It is our understanding that the
class will not continue to meet on Sunday morning, but this is not real
clear either.) Pray that Sundays will truly be kept free.
Also pray for Cheryl as Reiko has already begun to look to her for
those types of advice and guidance that a girl normally gets from her
mother during those teen years.
The week in short:
MONDAY - 28th:
Office & household chores... Much to do in both of these areas.
Cheryl is preparing the 6 month report for Jeffrey's evaluation. All 50+
pages of it.
Dinner with Mrs. Kodama in our home.
TUESDAY - 29th:
Plenty of office work to keep me busy this time of the year.
Afternoon, I will go to Ikeda's to help with Takashi's rehabilitation
program. Evening, young children's English class.
WEDNESDAY - 30th:
Pray and preparation day.
For the evening, we have been invited by the Nonaka's to their year
end party that they are having for the staff from their clinic.
THURSDAY - 31st:
Family time and naps during the day and afternoon as from about 9pm
- 1am will be taken with events at church.
New Year's Eve. There is an evening Praise & Pray service sponsored
by the "College & Career" group in the church. Pastor Okita and I
have roles in this event.
FRIDAY - New Years Day:
The "See the New Year In" worship and prayer service.
Later that morning, there will be other "New Year" activities with a
Japanese "flavor". Omochi Tsuki = pounding of rice into rice
dumplings and then eating them with different flavors attached. Such
as seaweed & soy sauce (Abigail's favorite), soy powder (my favorite),
sweet beans, etc., etc. and everybody's favorite, the soup with the rice
dumplings in it.
SATURDAY - 2nd:
Family time, housework.
SUNDAY - 3rd:
Worship service at Midorino Chapel.
Jeffrey's first evaluation day. Off to Tokyo we go.
MONDAY - 4th:
The second day of Jeffrey's evaluation. A long, long day...
TUESDAY - 5th:
The "Sunday Night English" group comes for a Pizza Party in the
evening.
Other Items:
Cheryl & Leon are feeling some stresses concerned with a lot of loose
ends hanging about these days.
Have not said much about my eye recently. Praise God that it seems
to be responding to the medication. Another Dr. visit on January 8th.
Dad Hill (Leon's) recently had hip replacement surgery. Recovery is on
schedule. Please pray for complete recovery.
Please, continue to remember in prayer:
* ICHIKAWA FAMILY *
They continue to seek just the right approach for Megumi's needs.
PLEASE PRAY that a solution will come quickly which will give glory to
God.
* NOBUE KONNO ministering in Ogden *
In Japan with her family for the holidays. Returns to the USA on
January 7th.
* NOZAKI FAMILY *
* RYUNOSUKE NOZAKI in Ogden *
* KENICHIRO WATANABE'S Salvation *
Kenichiro's "senior year schedule" has caused him to stop our
meetings together. Pray for other opportunities.
* CHERYL (the Mama) HILL *
Unless otherwise indicated, Cheryl is always the one running Jeffrey's
program and there is ALWAYS A SPECIAL PRAYER NEED for her.
Thank you for your ever faithful prayers. We praise God for you!
Your Compatriots in Christ's Kingdom,
The Hills: Abigail, Jeffrey, Cheryl & Leon
